As I understand there are two types of questions: multiple choice, Yes/No and there is always (for each question) only one correct answer??

Am I right??

What is about a Sprint 0

In many projects you can found a sprint 0 in which the technical infrastructure is build and perhaps the backlog entries get the state Ready.
I didn't find anything about it in the Scrum-Guide. So what is the right answer such a question come in the test?

Open assessment vs PSPO

Morning,

How different is the Open assessment compared to the PSPO 1 assessement? I understand that the PSPO is much harder, but the general advise on the forum is to do the Open assessments until you consistently get 100% and that is one of the indicators that you may be ready for the PSPO.

Is the Open assessment more in-line with the PSM one, as their are not many questions which deal with adding value?

I am consistently (last 10 attempts), getting 100% for the Open assessment, so how close am I to being ready for the PSPO? Or is there very little correlation between the two?

Thanks,
Justin

what to do if PO is not doing his job?

Hi, i got the following questions at the PSM1 which i failed at 82.5%, can you help giving your view?

what to do as a Scrum Master if PO is not doing his job (had handed the Prodcuct backlog to the DT, but no help is provided in giving details on the items, etc). ? (multi-response)

a/ coach him,
b/ discuss that during the Sprint Retrospective,
c/ stop the project,
d/ inform the PO functional line manager.

I would chose a/, b/ and d/, but i am not sure whether SC can complain outside of the scrum framework.

hi,
I had some doubts on few questions.
1. what will happen if timebox expires in sprint.
2.What does burn down chart indicate? does it indicate the cost to company, progress in product back log, progress in sprint backlog
3.during daily scrum if the teams are meeting at different places every day what should scrum master do?
4.some change emerges in the product how does it affect the product backlog.
5.sprint review is the only time stakeholders meet the scrum team
6.A sprint goal is defined before sprint backlog

Is it possible to install a Tapatalk plugin for Scrum.org? Then it will be able to follow the Scrum.org forums with the Windows Phone Tapatalk app.

PSM I assessment successfully passed

Today I passed the Professional Scrum Master I assessment!

73 points scored (or 91.3%) out of 80 maximum points.
I needed the full time box of 60 minutes, only 3 minutes left. I didn’t review any questions, although I had bookmarked some. No time to Google something or use other sources.

What I used to prepare for the assessment:
- Scrum Guide (English and native version)
- Professional Scrum Master (PSM) course
- Scrum Open and Scrum Developer Open assessments
- Scrum.org forums
- Scrumtrainingseries.com

PSD: What relationship does Scrum have to technical practices?

$

This question on PSD Open seemed nonsensical to me.

The correct answer doesn't illustrate any relationship between Scrum and technical practices.

Isn't this statement just as true? "Anybody with excellent technical practices will likely be more successful.."
What's that have to do with Scrum?

========================================================

What relationship does Scrum have to technical practices?

Correct answer: B)

A) None.

B) Scrum Development Teams with excellent technical practices will likely be more successful.

C) Scrum requires specific technical practices or it isn't Scrum.

D) All technical practices must be used to support Scrum.

Feedback:

While technical practices aren't specifically included as a part of Scrum, the rapid pace of development using Scrum often requires that good technical practices are utilized by Development Teams in order to be successful.

PSM 1 passed and tips

Just passed PSM 1 this morning. 77 out of 80. Want to share some tips.

1. Do the developer open assessment. There are some questions which came out of it.
2. Forget about testtakeronline. The material is outdated.
3. There are questions about burndown charts. http://mgmtplaza.com/downloads/Scrum%20Training%20Manual.pdf This will help.

I took the self study path and 4 days. Started on Tuesday. Like many others, it is important to reflect on what you have learnt from the guide, rather than memorizing it.

The only useful material from my point of view, after taking the test

1. The guide
2. The manual from the mgmtplaza
3. both open assessment (psm and developer)

I want to encourage anyone who has doubt about their own knowledge and experience and is hesitating whether to go down the self study path.

Good luck to all.

PO participation at Daily Scrum?

$

Hello,

I found the following question in the Scrum Master Training Manual:

The Scrum Master realizes that Product Owner attends all Daily Scrums and asks Team
Members about their tasks and gives them directions for the following day. What
should the Scrum Master do?

A. It’s wrong, the Product Owner should not attend Daily Scrum

B. It’s wrong, the Product Owner should not speak in Daily Scrum

C. It’s OK, the Product Owner can do this

D. It’s OK, it’s recommended for the Product Owner to give direction

According to the Training Manual the correct Answer is B.

But the Scrum Guide states on page 10:
"The Scrum Master enforces the rule that only Development Team members participate in the Daily Scrum."

So am I right that the right answer is A.?
What do you think?

Best regards,
Frank

The Essence of Scrum - a Better Explantion??

Hi,

I linked to Scrum.org from Wikipedia after reading somebody's description of SCRUM.

When I read the description below on this site, I was completely underwhelmed and felt very uninspired:

--------------------------------------------------------

(from scrum.org)
What is Scrum?
a better way of working

What is Scrum? Scrum is a way for teams to work together to develop a product. Product development, using Scrum, occurs in small pieces, with each piece building upon previously created pieces. Building products one small piece at a time encourages creativity and enables teams to respond to feedback and change, to build exactly and only what is needed.

--------------------------------------------------------

So I decided to come up with a slightly more colourful ( <-- British spelling) version

-------------------- my version --------------------

What is Scrum?

Simply put, Scrum is a new, flexible and adaptive way of working together!

Scrum can bend!

A Scrum methodology allows the target to move and has the flexibility built in to re-aim and fire, again and again and again!

The traditional approach to a project, where a design is set in stone from start to finish, produces a very rigid beast, leaving little room for modification or manoeuvre. A few little changes could mean the whole thing has to go back to the drawing board. This phenomenon of moving targets is sometimes called "scope-creep" or "requirements churn" where some of the needs and functionality are overlooked or are thought of later. It is very, very common if not ALWAYS present in almost all projects.

Scrum can deal with this - it's designed for it!

Scrum enables designers to meet regularly, usually daily to discuss the state of the project, any changes or additions and so on, all the while staying focussed on the not so in focus target - a slightly vague target, but still carefully defined and precise at the same time due to the nature of the built in flexibility and adaptability - the nature of the beast, if you will!

--------------------------------------------------------

Please let me know your thoughts.

Personally, I feel if something's really going to inspire you it should have an EMOTIONAL impact.

Question (how to measure product success/values )?

$

Hi *

I couldn't find the answer in the suggested books for PSPO:
https://www.scrum.org/Courses/Professional-Scrum-Product-Owner/PSPO-Subject-Areas

from my point of view is the customer satisfaction among the most important factor to define a product as successfull but the customer satisfaction decrease over time. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kano_model

what else (metrics) must be taken into considration for measuring product success or product value?
- lower cost?
- higher revenue?
- earlier release/ shorter time-to-market?

Question (Dev-Team needs help from outside)?

$

The Dev. Team should be self-organizing and be cross-functional, so to have all necessay skills to create a increment without any help from out of team. So far is the theory but in the reality , the teams are not always in best form / constalation, especially if the team is new formed.

I remember to read somewhere that is occasionally allowed for example if dev. team invite experts from other teams , to support better estimation etc.

how about feature implementing , If the team is currently not able to solve a specific technical problem, what they should do?

A- communicate with PO/SM and do their best in the current sprint but raise an issue and try to learn how to solve the problem themselves and then improve /fix this "technical debt" ASAP in future sprints?

B- are they allowed here also get support from other teams in the current sprint?

Cleared the PSM 1

I cleared the PSM 1 on 14th April. Thanks to everyone in this forum as apart from other sources the discussions in the forum helped answer some of the tough questions. Still I had few questions which I think I answered wrong.

1.The Scrum Master should NOT allow the Product Owner to go to the Sprint Planning meeting WITHOUT having already devised the Sprint Goal.

A) True
B) False

2.Which are functions of a self-organizing Development Team in Scrum?

Choose all that apply.
A) Report on daily Sprint progress to the stakeholders.
B) Set the best time for the Daily Scrum.
C) Pull work from the Product Backlog into the Sprint.
D) Track their velocity in an ALM tool.
E) Reorder the user stories in the Product Backlog.

Which of the following is required by Scrum?

Choose all that apply.
A) Sprint Retrospective
B) Members must stand up at the Daily Scrum
C) Release Planning
D) Sprint Burndown Chart
E) All of the above
